Côte d’Ivoire : Le gouvernement dissout la Commission électorale indépendante (CEI)
In Côte d'Ivoire, the government, meeting in the Council of Ministers this Wednesday, May 6, decided to dissolve the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI). The information was made public by the government spokesperson, Amadou Coulibaly, during his traditional Wednesday press briefing.
This "dissolution paves the way for the advent of a new election management mechanism"
According to the authority, the IEC, established in 2001, was responsible for organizing and supervising national elections, but reservations raised about it, as well as the criticism it faced, led the Council to decide on its dissolution.
"This dissolution paves the way for the advent of a new election management mechanism, capable of further reassuring political actors and Ivorians and of sustainably guaranteeing the holding of peaceful elections" in Ivory Coast, said Minister Coulibaly.
