A tragedy of rare violence has rocked the Siguiri prefecture. On the night of Wednesday, September 17 to Thursday, September 18, 2025, an 8-year-old girl named Sira Bayo died after being beaten by her aunt in the Kourémalé sub-prefecture, located 79 km from Siguiri-centre.

According to information gathered on site, the alleged perpetrator, Fadima Bérété, aged 20, married and mother of two children, had custody of the child since the death of her father.

The circumstances of the tragedy

Asked about the case, the divisional commissioner, Colonel Yacouba Camara, confirmed the seriousness of the facts:

"We have been informed of a case of intentional homicide committed by a married woman, Fadima Bérété, who allegedly kidnapped and beat an 8-year-old girl, resulting in her death. On the morning of Thursday, September 18, the victim began vomiting blood. Rushed to the Kouremalé health center, doctors confirmed that she had been severely beaten."

Faced with the rapid deterioration of her health, the girl was transferred to the Siguiri prefectural hospital for intensive care.

Alarming medical finding

Lieutenant Abdoulaye Bachirou Condé, a doctor from the High Command of the National Gendarmerie, on duty at the Siguiri prefectural hospital, detailed the injuries observed:

"We observed multiple injuries throughout the victim's body, including to the buttocks, legs, neck, and head. This girl's death likely resulted from severe head trauma."

The alleged perpetrator in the hands of justice

On the instructions of the public prosecutor at the Siguiri court of first instance, Ibrahima Camara, the alleged culprit, Fadima Bérété, was arrested and handed over to the competent services for the purposes of the investigation.

This tragedy has rekindled the debate on domestic violence in Guinea, and more specifically on the protection of vulnerable children in foster homes.
