Alpha Blondy : De l'IA au reggae, un plaidoyer pour une Afrique innovante et unie
Imagine reggae boosted by artificial intelligence, where ancestral rhythms meet the algorithms of the future. This is the experience that Ivorian legend Alpha Blondy shared at the 20th edition of the Timitar Festival, held from December 17th to 19th in Al Amal Square and at the Théâtre de Verdure. Beyond a simple, fiery performance alongside artists like Fatima Tabaamrant and Krys M, Alpha Blondy transforms his art into a forward-looking vision for Africa. We met him at the Hilton Hotel, where he delivered a speech that fused technology, spirituality, and continental unity – a refreshing perspective for rethinking Africa's future.
AI, a "divine tool" to revolutionize African music
Alpha Blondy doesn't hesitate to embrace digital technology: "My engineer and I tried to make a reggae track using artificial intelligence. It's incredible!" For him, this tool isn't a threat, but a blessing: "God put this tool in place to give creators the means to perfect their work. Young musicians collaborating with AI is going to be fantastic."
He highlights the opportunity for digital youth: “Before, you needed a big studio; now, in your bedroom with a small computer, you become a star. African musicians have access to technology without having to go to Europe. We have the quality, the quantity, and above all, the inspiration.” This perspective resonates particularly in West Africa, where talents like those from Senegal are emerging through accessible platforms.
Timitar, a showcase of an Africa that expresses itself and unites
The Timitar Festival is more than just a party; it's a catalyst for cultural expression. "Today, Africa can express itself through major festivals like Timitar. The fact that artists come from all over to celebrate culture and party together is priceless," he affirms. For Alpha Blondy, it's an opportunity to showcase a positive side of Africa: "Africa shouldn't always be associated with bad news. Timitar puts Africa in the spotlight through its cultural prowess and unity."
He calls for a pan-African exchange: "Countries like Morocco, with their technological development, can contribute to the development of others. But there needs to be an exchange: those south of the Sahara must also contribute. It is Africans who will build Africa. Paradise is within our reach."
Peace as a foundation, the AFCON as a symbol of hope
Ambassador of Peace for ECOWAS and former UN envoy, Alpha Blondy links everything to peace: “Where there is peace, there is hope. It is a divine dimension. Without peace, there is no respect for human rights.” His reggae? A “medicine” to heal the wounds of slavery and colonization: “Africa’s history does not begin with these accidental events. It is about rebuilding the African man.”
On the eve of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, he supports two nations: "Ivory Coast and Morocco, out of gratitude – thanks to Morocco, Ivory Coast was resurrected during the previous AFCON. If they meet in the final, we will have to pray!" This support illustrates sporting unity as a lever for fraternity.
A spiritual mission in an accelerated world
At the heart of it all is spirituality: "Before being human, he is a spiritual being created by God. Love, peace, profound spirituality—these are my inspirations." Looking back, his success? "Alpha Blondy deserves no credit. The ultimate inspiration is God. I am simply passing it on. Everyone has a divine mission; excel at it, like Michael Jackson or James Brown."
In a world that spins at breakneck speed – “The Earth at 118,000 km/h around the Sun, God is a fast God” – Alpha Blondy invites us to optimism: “Modern tools help us go fast, it’s in our DNA.”
From Timitar to the Africa Cup of Nations, and including AI, Alpha Blondy paints a picture of a dynamic Africa, where tradition and innovation combine for a bright future. A message that, from Agadir, inspires Senegal and the entire continent.
