Aziz Coulibaly : «Waly Seck n’a pas un bon…»
In an interview published this Monday in Wal Fadjri, Aziz Coulibaly offers a strong opinion on the management of Senegalese musicians' careers. The cultural promoter and former host of Sud FM radio believes they are completely out of touch. According to him, even Waly Seck, despite his potential, is no exception: "He doesn't have the right people around him. If I managed him, he would be a global sensation. He's talented, stylish, and young people love him, but he doesn't inspire on stage. A 20-minute song isn't a show."
Coulibaly believes that Senegalese musicians "want to be songwriters, arrangers, and musicians. They have a problem sharing." "It's a copyright issue," the cultural promoter insists. "Great artists like Michael Jackson are only performers. They aren't lyricists. They became billionaires through their songs and tours. It's an industry in which everyone should have their share. By trying to do everything, some artists find themselves in trouble. Their managers no longer fulfill their role. They're transformed into messengers or brokers."
