« Back », la pièce Sénégalaise qui enflamme la scène de Carthage en Tunisie

It was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful evenings to take place at the prestigious Carthage Festival this Monday on the legendary Rio stage. For the 26th edition of the Carthage Theatre Days in Tunisia, the entire hall resonated with the magnificent performance of the Senegalese actors participating in the official competition with the play "Back".

The Senegalese comedians captivated everyone with their presence and talent, not to mention the originality of the acting they presented to the public under a subdued light accompanied by good music that offered a playful melody to the ear.

This beautiful play, written and directed by Bérengère Brooks, showcases talented young Senegalese actors such as Zaina Ba, Amy Badji, Mohamadou Fall, Laye Mbaye, Ass Niang, and Dial Thiam. The play tells the moving story of a young girl, highlighting social issues and practices such as the death penalty, illegal immigration, democracy, and gender equality.

The whole city is buzzing: She's back!

The entire city awaits her, undoubtedly hoping that this "returning migrant," who left ten years ago, will come back with enough money to contribute to the city's much-needed development. Yet, she doesn't seem ready to give anything away, neither to the city nor to the residents who watched her grow up. Doubt creeps in about her intentions. Attitudes shift. What will the city's inhabitants and the powers that be be willing to do to get their hands on her fortune? This political and social satire humorously explores the themes of democracy, migration, and gender equality in society.

A beautiful adaptation of a text loosely inspired by Bernard Wicki's film 'La Rancune' and Friedrich Dürrenmatt's play 'The Visit'. Performed by young Senegalese actors, everything about this play is excellent: not only the text, but the actors, the direction, the set design, and the costumes. The Tunisian audience roared with laughter several times during the nearly hour-long performance. The actors played their roles to perfection. It's easy to get swept up in the story, which leads to many entertaining situations. It's worth noting that this 26th edition of the Carthage Theatre Days will conclude on November 29th, and Senegal is strongly represented by a delegation from the Ministry of Culture, led by the Grand National Theatre of Dakar.

J'espère que notre TV nationale ou une chaîne privée pourra acheter le droit de rediffusion pour qu'on voit cette prestation, ou que la troupe reprenne la pièce ici au Sénégal (si ce n'est déjà fait😂!).
