Culture, Tourisme et Artisanat : Le Président Bassirou Diomaye Faye fixe le cap
During the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was direct and firm regarding the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Crafts. According to the Head of State, all necessary measures must be taken to ensure better consideration of the cultural and craft sectors. In this context, he gave specific guidance to Mr. Amadou Ba, the new minister in charge of this portfolio. Excerpt from the Council of Ministers press release:
Culture
- Preserve and promote historical heritage and ancestral traditions.
- Decentralize cultural policy and modernize cultural infrastructure.
- Develop the arts and literature, protect artists' rights and mobilize appropriate funding.
- Include in the roadmap: training, professionalization and capacity building of cultural actors.
- Provide the sector with qualified human resources (advisors, cultural facilitators).
Craftsmanship
- Rationalize craft structures and resources.
- Establish a National Fund for the Promotion of Crafts.
Tourism
- Plan hotel/tourist developments and establishments in a concerted manner to increase accommodation capacity.
- Revitalize tourist areas and sites (Petite Côte, Cap Skirring, Saloum Islands, Gorée, etc.).
- Restructure and relaunch hotel credit, the National Tourism Council and SAPCO (new framework agreement with the State).
- Prepare the general meeting of the sector with all stakeholders to align strategies and interventions.
