Festival Porlahla de Kouto en Côte d’Ivoire : Niamone remporte la meilleure prestation

The Senegalese delegation from the commune of Niamone proudly raised the national flag at the Porlahla festival in Kouto, Ivory Coast. In its first participation in this major African cultural event, the Niamone delegation made a splash with a truly memorable performance.

This Senegalese delegation is preparing to return home with what several analysts on the ground are calling the "African Cup" of culture, having awarded them the Palme d'Or. Their performance, built on intensity, popular enthusiasm, and the affirmation of a strong cultural identity, has been universally acclaimed.

A captivating performance rooted in the Casamance region

The performance by the Niamone delegation on February 6, 2026, captivated the entire audience. The songs, dances, drum rhythms, and cultural demonstrations presented by this troupe from the Bignona department enthralled the public. By showcasing initiatory cultural expressions linked to the traditions of Casamance, the delegation transformed the festival village into a true space for transmission and discovery.

Following performances involving several countries, Senegal was declared the winner of the competition. For this first attempt, the performance of the Niamone troupe made a lasting impression and propelled Senegal to the top of this African cultural event.

A catalyst for local cultural development

Atab Badji, mayor of Niamone and head of the delegation, expressed his profound satisfaction following this recognition. "We have thus won the 'African Cup' of culture, and we will return to Senegal with this trophy that all the delegations hoped to win," he exclaimed. Beyond the distinction itself, the mayor emphasized the symbolic significance of this victory for Senegal and for the authentic Casamance region.

According to Atab Badji, this trophy is a catalyst for local cultural development. He emphasized the need for a swift resumption of activities to consolidate this momentum, reiterating that the festival's central objective remains the affirmation of cultural identity. Relaying the congratulations of the festival's promoter, Mr. Badji stated that this victory confirms the vitality of Senegalese culture on a continental scale and strengthens cultural ties between peoples.

Comme quoi au Sénégal il n’y a pas que le « Ndawraabin » et autres. Il faut bien se le rappeler et promouvoir encore plus « l’autre Sénégal ».
