Frantz Fanon célébré à Dakar : Grand colloque International au Musée des civilisations noires

As part of the celebration of the centenary of Frantz Fanon (1925-2025), the Museum of Black Civilizations, the Frantz Fanon Foundation, and their partners are organizing a major international symposium in Dakar. This event will be held from December 17 to 20, 2025, around the theme "Fanon, African Hope."

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM at the Museum of Black Civilizations in Dakar. Numerous dignitaries are expected to attend, including authorities, academics, researchers, artists, cultural figures, as well as representatives of institutions, diplomatic missions, and regional and international organizations.

The Dakar meeting concludes the series of international events organized worldwide to promote the thought of Frantz Fanon, who was a Pan-Africanist, a psychiatrist of dignity, a writer, and a revolutionary. This three-day symposium will bring together 120 intellectuals from 23 African countries, the diaspora, Europe, and the Americas. The program will be rich and varied, featuring an opening lecture, 19 panels, 5 plenary sessions, and 2 keynote addresses.

A century after his birth, Fanon's ideas continue to shake consciences and question power dynamics. His work is central to decolonial thought and critical studies, offering powerful frameworks for understanding psychic and cultural alienation.

Furthermore, his analyses of racism and Black identity resonate strongly with contemporary movements such as Black Lives Matter, and his ardent advocacy for African unity continues to inspire Pan-African movements. The Dakar symposium is therefore not merely commemorative.

The aim is to reclaim Fanon's thought in order to radically address the deep roots of the economic, geopolitical, and racial inequalities of our time. It is about drawing inspiration from his struggles to work resolutely towards collective liberation and dismantling the vestiges of neocolonialism and racism.
