Littérature : Le Sénégalais Babou Diatta lauréat du prix spécial des Francopholires 2025
Senegalese writer Babou Diatta was awarded the special Francopholires prize for his second work, "La magie du symbole," at the prestigious Festival des Littératures Francophones, held from September 21 to 28, 2025, in Saint-Cirq-Souillaguet, France.
This literary prize recognizes a work deemed particularly relevant by a major international jury. It recognizes the work of an actor whose writing stands out for its symbolic richness and cultural significance.
Originally from Diattacounda, in the department of Goudoump (Sedhiou region), Babou Diatta is also the author of the novel "L'horizon voilé", published by L'Harmattan-Sénégal. Alongside his career as a writer, he works as a trainer at the Regional Training Center for Education Personnel (CRFPE) in Thiès.
In his acceptance speech, the author said: "I dedicate this prize, which I receive with humility, to my family, my closest relatives, my fellow writers, all cultural actors, my community, the Balante community, of which I am very proud, and more broadly, to all the Senegalese people."
The Festival of Francophone Literature is a major event in the French-speaking cultural world. Every year, it brings together writers, artists, filmmakers, and intellectuals from around the world to celebrate the diversity and richness of French-language literature.
With this distinction, Babou Diatta establishes himself a little more as one of the rising literary voices of Senegal and the Francophonie.
