MUSIQUE- Meilleure artiste d'Afrique de l'Ouest au PRIMUD: La Guinéenne Djélykaba Bintou Kouyaté sacrée devant Mia Guissé et Bass Thioung
The podium that hosted the ceremony of the 10th edition of the Urban Music and Coupé-Décalé (Primud) Prize in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) vibrated this Friday, October 10, to the rhythm of this major West African musical competition. This competition pitted 14 West African singers against each other, including Senegalese Mia Guissé and Bass Thioung. In the end, it was Guinean singer Djélykaba Bintou Kouyaté who won this prestigious award with 39.1% of the votes. She was honored with the title of best West African artist, ahead of Mia Guissé and Bass Thioung, as well as many other artists such as Sidiki Diabaté from Mali and Axel Merryl from Benin.
More than just a trophy, this distinction is a resounding recognition of the artist's talent, creativity, and impact on the continent's musical culture. Djélykaba Bintou has established a unique style, blending traditional Mandingo sounds with touches of contemporary urban music.
The daughter of a griot, Djélykaba Bintou grew up surrounded by a rich musical tradition. A graduate in international business, she gave it all up to pursue her passion. Through her music, Djélykaba Bintou addresses sociocultural themes while highlighting Guinea's cultural richness. She has also established herself internationally, a success that makes her a true ambassador for Guinea.
