Fermeture de deux centres de l’ONG Enfants Soleil Monde : Plus de 200 autistes et trisomiques privés d’école
This is a devastating blow for hundreds of families. The NGO Enfants Soleil Monde, founded by parents of children with disabilities (Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy), has announced the closure of two of its major facilities: the main center in Malika and the Maison Jaune in Mbour. The reason: a severe financial crisis that has led to delays in salary payments and the inability to cover operating costs.
More than 200 children abruptly left at home
In Malika, over 150 children benefited from specialized schooling and paramedical support. In Mbour, about twenty others were receiving care at the Yellow House. Today, these children remain at home, deprived of appropriate education, speech therapy, psychomotor therapy, and psychological support.
In total, 35 staff members (specialized educators and paramedical personnel) worked at the two now-closed sites. Adama Ndao Dia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NGO, is sounding the alarm: “We are currently experiencing financial difficulties that have caused delays in salary payments. We have had to close the main center in Malika and the Yellow House in Mbour. Today, more than 200 children remain at home.”
He emphasizes the immediate impact on care: "The children are no longer attending school and no longer benefit from speech therapy, psychomotor therapy, or psychological support."
For the parents, it's a brutal return to isolation. These centers often represented the only specialized structure accessible to their children.
An urgent appeal to the State and to people of goodwill
Faced with this social emergency, the NGO is making an urgent appeal to the Senegalese government, businesses, and technical and financial partners. "We are requesting support to guarantee the educational and paramedical inclusion of these children," pleads Adama Ndao Dia.
Beyond a budget crisis, the issue of inclusion for children with disabilities is a pressing one. Without swift intervention, more than 200 children risk having their educational and therapeutic paths permanently compromised.
