Rentrée 2025 à Dakar : entre vétusté des écoles, pénurie de tables-bancs et menace de la drogue
A Departmental Development Committee (CDD) meeting dedicated to preparing for the 2025/2026 school year was held in Dakar on Thursday. This provided an opportunity for the School Inspector, Cheikh Faye, to provide a worrying overview of the state of affairs in the department.
In his report, reviewed by Le Soleil, he highlighted several major challenges. In terms of infrastructure, the need to increase the number of schools remains pressing, but the scarcity of land in the capital complicates the task. Added to this is the dilapidated state of a large number of schools: 48 establishments currently require renovation.
School equipment poses another challenge. The Dakar Academy has an estimated shortage of 8,708 desks and benches, which are essential for providing better conditions for students.
The difficulties don't stop there. On the educational and social front, the Education and Training Inspectorates (IEF) face several recurring problems: the lack of birth certificates for some students, the poor support provided to children with disabilities, and the lack of training for private school teachers.
The issue of safety and the school environment was also raised by stakeholders and parents. They denounced the anarchic occupation of the surrounding areas of schools, the lack of control over the sale of food near schools, and the worrying presence of drugs in some school environments.
Faced with this observation, the Prefect of the Dakar Department, Cherif Mouhamadou Blondin Ndiaye, urged all stakeholders to work together to address these challenges. He emphasized the need to upgrade schools to ensure a peaceful and successful return to school on October 8.
