Université virtuelle de Kolda : Les étudiants en grève contre les lenteurs administratives
A 48-hour strike, beginning this Thursday, has been called by students at the Virtual University (UVS) of Kolda. These protesters are demonstrating against administrative delays that are hindering their academic progress. According to Omar Baldé, the student spokesperson, classes are no longer proceeding normally for students from the 8th to the current 13th cohort due to delayed exam schedules, the failure to publish grades, and a strike by teaching assistants.
The ordeal of students at the Cheikh Hamidou Kane Digital University in Kolda continues: each graduating class seems to be stuck, unable to progress to the next level. For example, the 8th graduating class, who received their baccalaureate in 2020, is currently in the first year of their Master's program without having taken all the required exams, while the 9th graduating class remains stuck in the third year of their Bachelor's degree. As for the 12th graduating class, they have yet to complete the coursework required to validate their first year of their Bachelor's degree.
“When will these delays end?” ask the students, who are demanding a stable and consistent academic calendar for each year group. Speaking to the press, the students of the Open Digital Space (ENO) are calling on the Minister of Higher Education to put an end to these bottlenecks that are stifling the careers of hundreds of young Senegalese. Otherwise, Omar Baldé and his fellow students promise to escalate their actions with more forceful measures.

Lorsque ces derniers sortent pour réclamer légitimement leurs droits, ils sont reçus par le recteur et son équipe uniquement pour être calmés, sans qu’aucune action concrète ne suive. C’est profondément aberrant. Treize ans après sa création, aucun changement notable : les mêmes pratiques, les mêmes injustices.
Je suis convaincu que les étudiants tiennent encore malgré cette institution, et non grâce à elle — ce qui est profondément désolant. Pire encore, une université où l’étudiant n’a même plus le droit de rêver. Le comble de l’ironie est la privatisation des masters, avec une sélection drastique : moins de 100 étudiants retenus par filière pour plus de 5 000 inscrits.
Vraiment, les mots me manquent pour décrire tout ce qui se trame là-bas. C’est une situation inacceptable qui mérite d’être dénoncée avec fermeté.
