The concerted improvement of urban planning and the living environment of populations occupied a prominent place in the communication of the President of the Republic during the Council of Ministers this Wednesday, October 22, 2025. During this weekly meeting, Bassirou Diomaye Faye emphasized that the inclusive and responsible management of the living environment of populations remains a fundamental element of the modernization of cities and municipalities.

In this regard, he instructed the government to take "all measures and arrangements to promote the development of controlled commercial urban planning, which preserves developed spaces, public safety and health as well as the living environment of the population."

Furthermore, the Head of State reiterated his commitment to accelerating the implementation of the programme to modernise markets and commercial spaces.

President Faye also asked the Minister for the Environment and Ecological Transition, the Minister for Urban Planning and Local Authorities, and the Minister for Hydraulics and Sanitation to work towards "the continuous and sustainable improvement of the solid and liquid waste management system, through sustained consultations and operational frameworks for intervention between companies, services, projects and stakeholders."

Finally, the President of the Republic stressed the importance of adequate landscaping in cities and towns, which must increasingly prioritize cleanliness, the modernization of public spaces and the quality of life in their urban transformation programs.
