Il y a 16 ans disparaissait Bourba Djolof, figure emblématique du hip-hop sénégalais
Sixteen years ago today, Senegalese rap lost one of its most prominent voices with the death of Mouhamadou Tafsir Konaté, aka Bourba Djolof.
A founding member of the group "Sen Kumpë", Bourba Djolof profoundly marked the hip-hop movement in Senegal through his commitment, his authenticity and his contribution to the rise of conscious rap, firmly rooted in the social and cultural realities of the country.
He embodied a generation of rappers for whom music was simultaneously a means of expression, protest, and the transmission of values. His sudden death on February 1, 2010, sparked a wave of emotion within the music scene and among the many hip-hop fans.
Sixteen years later, his memory remains alive in the collective memory through his work, his artistic legacy and the influence he continues to exert on new generations of Senegalese rappers.
