Serguei Lavrov, ministre russe des Affaires étrangères : «Certains pays ont récemment perdu le nord en … »
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov strongly criticized US foreign policy during a meeting of the Russian International Affairs Council. This was reported in the Russian press's periodic bulletin covering March 30 to April 5, 2026, published by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Senegal and The Gambia, and received by Seneweb today.
It is reported that, speaking before members of the Russian International Affairs Council, Lavrov stated that "some countries have recently lost their way by claiming rights over foreign territories."
To illustrate his point, the Russian foreign minister cited two recent American statements, made two days apart.
On one side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, questioned about the conflict in the Persian Gulf, made any exit from the crisis conditional on Iran, accusing it of "flagrant violations of international law" if the latter does not open the Strait of Hormuz.
On the other hand, President Donald Trump declared that "international law means little to me; I have my own morals and my own instincts."
Faced with this contradiction, Lavrov did not mince words. "This is a two-pronged strategy," he emphasized.
