US President Donald Trump asserted on Friday that "if Iran were to shoot peaceful protesters and kill them violently, as it usually does, the United States of America would come to their aid," on his Truth Social network.
"We are ready, armed and prepared to intervene," he wrote, as clashes between protesters and security forces left six dead in Iran on Thursday, the first since the start of a mobilization against the high cost of living in the country.
Thirty people accused of "disturbing public order" were arrested in Tehran, the Tasnim agency reported Thursday evening, while no incidents had been officially reported in recent days by the authorities in the capital.
The movement began on Sunday in Tehran, where shopkeepers closed their stores to protest hyperinflation and the economic crisis. It then spread to universities and the rest of the country.
