Décès d’Abdoulaye Bâ : le Collectif des Amicales de l’Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar conteste la version du procureur
The Collective of Student Associations of Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) expressed its "deep dismay" following the press conference held this Tuesday, February 17, 2026, by the Public Prosecutor, Ibrahima Ndoye, concerning the tragic death of student Abdoulaye Bâ. In a statement, the Collective believes that the prosecutor's communication reflects "a clear desire on the part of the State to absolve itself of all responsibility" in this case, which it described as "painful and unacceptable." The information presented by the prosecutor's office, particularly regarding the circumstances of the fall from the fourth floor, raises, according to the students, "countless questions."
The Collective is questioning the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy. How could the situation have deteriorated to such an extent? Who gave the order to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) to enter the student residence? Did the Minister of the Interior oversee the operations carried out on February 9, 2026? Why was no order given to withdraw the police when, according to the students, the violence and police misconduct escalated throughout the day?
The students also questioned the origin of the fire in room 85F, which they believe prompted the occupants of room 83F to jump from the fourth floor. They also raised concerns about alleged inconsistencies in the conclusions presented, particularly regarding the absence of fractures despite a fall from such a height.
The Collective states that the Senegalese people and the university community expect "clear answers" and reject any attempt to make students "scapegoats".
The Collective demands the immediate release of the students arrested and prosecuted in connection with this case, denouncing their detentions as unjust. Welcoming the "outpouring of solidarity" observed nationwide, the Collective maintains its strike call until Thursday, February 19, 2026.
In conclusion, the Collective of Associations reiterates its "unwavering commitment" to the student community and promises to continue the mobilization to shed light on the circumstances of Abdoulaye Bâ's death.
