Governance: The long-awaited break is slow to materialize, according to Moctar Sourang

Gouvernance : La rupture tant attendue tarde à se matérialiser, selon Moctar Sourang

While acknowledging his support for the Pastef regime, Moctar Sourang considers governance to be the main weakness of the current government. According to the former coordinator of the National Resistance Front (FRN), the stated desire for a break with the past is not yet visible in the day-to-day running of the state.

“I recognize that there is a will. Efforts are being made. We sense an intention for change. But in practice, things are not moving fast enough,” says the guest on “Grand Jury” this Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Indeed, for the president of the National Patriotic Union (UNP), the Administration would continue to operate according to old logics, in total contradiction with the commitments made to the voters.

“The Senegalese administration does not function in the service of all citizens,” denounces Mr. Sourang, who also emphasizes unequal access to rights. “Without connections, without money, many rights become inaccessible.”

Also, "the disorder persists, as does the lack of control. And that is where the heart of the problem lies," he insists.

This administrative inertia, he believes, threatens to drain the political project of its substance. Without a visible break in practices, the government risks repeating the very same flaws it denounced yesterday. However, for Moctar Sourang, "this regime cannot afford to make mistakes. Too many sacrifices have been made," he warned on RFM radio, emphasizing the fragility of its current legitimacy if promises are not followed by concrete actions.

The president of the UNP therefore calls for an immediate and tangible break with certain practices deeply entrenched in the state apparatus, a condition, according to him, essential to restoring confidence.

"There is still time to correct, to really break with certain practices, to impose another way of governing, closer to the citizens, more rigorous, more exemplary," he said before warning that the sovereignist and break-away discourse risks clashing with the reality of a static state, incapable of reforming itself.
