Gamou international de Médina Baye : le gouvernement réaffirme son soutien aux foyers religieux

This Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the religious city of Medina Baye, in Kaolack, hosted the official ceremony of the International Gamou, celebrating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Jean-Baptiste Tine, represented the State of Senegal, conveying the message of the President of the Republic and the government to the Muslim community. "We came to Medina Baye to represent the President of the Republic and the government during this celebration. In these moments of strong spirituality, we are honored to be in a religious city with an international dimension, carried by the legacy of Mawlana Cheikh Ibrahima Niass,” said the minister. Support for religious centers without politicization Jean-Baptiste Tine reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting religious centers, while avoiding their politicization: “As the Prime Minister recently emphasized during the preparations for Gamou, the state is committed to supporting religious centers in their noble mission, without ever seeking to politicize religion.” He assured that the promises made during the regional development committee for Gamou were kept, guaranteeing the smooth running of the event. Response to floods The minister also addressed the issue of flooding affecting certain localities: “Beyond the greetings of the Head of State, I would like to express our compassion for the populations affected by the recent floods. The government is taking all necessary measures to resolve these problems definitively. »A request for prayersBefore concluding, Jean-Baptiste Tine requested the prayers of the religious authorities: "We ask you to pray for the President of the Republic and his government, so that they succeed in their mission in the service of the Senegalese citizens."The legacy of Sheikh Ibrahima NiassThe spokesperson for the Caliph of Faydatou Tidjania, Sheikh Mouhamadoul Mahy Alioune Cissé, welcomed the commitment of the authorities: "We are reassured by your willingness to work for the development of Senegal. We pray for the success of the mission that the people have entrusted to you, in the spirit of the spiritual and universal legacy of Sheikh Al Islam El Hadji Ibrahima Niass."The 2025 edition of the International Gamou of Medina Baye thus strengthens the historical ties between the State and religious centers, while celebrating a spiritual tradition rooted in universality.
