"The state of health facilities in Senegal is very worrying. Hospital infrastructure is obsolete, with faulty electrical and sanitation systems, resulting in very high risks of fire and nosocomial infections." This is the observation of the national vice-president of SOS Consommateurs, El-Hadji Ciré Balley Diallo, responsible for education, health and social affairs.

According to him, level 1, 2 and 3 hospitals urgently require serious rehabilitation. He cites key problems around the "lack of beds and qualified staff"; and the "unequal distribution of health services: specialized services, particularly in cardiology, oncology and neurosurgery, are concentrated in the regions of Dakar, Thiès and Diourbel to the detriment of other very under-equipped regions."

Shortage of specialist doctors

Our country, believes the national vice-president of SOS Consommateurs, must fill a deficit of nearly 950 specialist doctors, particularly in cancerology, neurosurgery and anesthesia-resuscitation.

Poor resource management

According to El-Hadji Ciré Balley Diallo, "misappropriation of funds has been observed, such as that of 42.5 million FCFA in the framework of the PASME project in Kolda", financed by the French Development Agency.

Low share of the national budget

The Vice President is outraged by the fact that "only 9% of the national budget is allocated, a percentage well below the 15% recommended at the community level." He denounces the recurring strikes, the poor reception, the irresponsible behavior of certain agents, the unjustified and abusive amount of entry tickets and other fees, and the serious administrative errors without real sanctions.

Still on the worrying situation of health structures in Senegal, the national vice-president of SOS Consommateurs does not fail to mention "the absenteeism, the lateness of certain agents who work in private clinics where patients are often referred."
