AIBD : Les travailleurs réclament leurs terrains à Mbour 4 et interpellent Ousmane Sonko
The suspension of land allocations in Mbour 4 to employees of Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) continues to cause deep unease within the airport. Considering these plots as social rights stemming from transfer agreements, the workers denounce a decision they deem unjust and warn of an increasingly toxic social climate within the aviation sector.
The dispute concerns a quota of 80 plots of land. While 50 plots had initially been allocated, the beneficiaries expected the remaining 30 to be granted as well. However, the new authorities ultimately withdrew the initial 50 plots. Those affected are now demanding the return of the reclaimed plots and the completion of the process for the remaining 30, in accordance with the original commitments.
According to Ousmane Siby, communications officer for the Senegalese Union of Aeronautical Workers (SYMPAAS), the Mbour 4 airfields are not a privilege but rather the result of a major social commitment linked to the transfer of employees to Diass. He clarifies that these allocations, negotiated under the previous regime, constitute acquired rights and not political favors. He believes the current suspension must be lifted immediately to ease tensions.
For his part, Serigne Moustapha Gaye, Secretary General of SYMPAAS and Vice-President of the airport's inter-union group, describes the situation as serious. He points to a series of dysfunctions in the sector's governance and believes that the legitimate expectations of the workers are being ignored. Faced with this impasse, the unions are directly appealing to Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to find an urgent solution to this crisis.
The unions are now raising the specter of escalating the industrial action. While dialogue has led to some progress in the past, management believes the current deterioration of the working environment could lead to a complete paralysis of the aviation sector. They are calling for a swift reassertion of control over the situation to avoid open conflict with the authorities.
