Filialisation d’Air Sénégal : les travailleurs de 2AS alertent sur une menace pour leurs emplois

2AS employee representatives are denouncing a proposed subsidiary by Air Senegal, which they consider worrying given the current difficulties facing the national airline and the uncertainty surrounding the future of its workers.

Thus, on the occasion of Labour Day, the agents of the airport assistance company 2AS faced the press to express their serious concerns about the future of their company, in a context of profound changes in the aviation sector.

Secretary General of the Unified Union of Air Transport and Related Activities Workers of Senegal, Alassane Ndoye recalled the historical significance of May 1st, in reference to the workers' struggles of the Haymarket Affair, which led to the eight-hour workday.

But beyond the symbolism, the union representative warned of the risks associated with a potential increase in Air Senegal's stake in 2AS. According to him, ceding up to 75% of the shares to the national airline, which is currently facing difficulties, could further weaken a structure he nevertheless describes as a "national pride."

"A company in difficulty cannot absorb another without risk of contamination," he insisted, arguing instead for the entry of strategic partners capable of providing financing and equipment.

The union insists on the need to preserve the nearly 1,000 jobs at 2AS and rejects any unilateral government decision that would go against the interests of the workers. It proposes, in particular, a revision of the shareholders' agreement and better job security for employees.

By way of comparison, Air Côte d'Ivoire is cited as an example of a more efficient model, the Ivorian company being profitable without directly providing ground handling services.

Finally, the workers denounce their exclusion from the ongoing discussions at the Prime Minister's office regarding the relaunch of Air Senegal. While hoping that their concerns will be taken into account, they warn: "If their interests are not respected, they do not rule out taking action to make their voices heard."

The tone is therefore set on this May 1st, for the agents of 2AS, the defense of their means of work remains a red line.
