This Friday, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko chaired an inter-ministerial meeting on the situation at Sonacos. The head of government assured the various stakeholders that the state will continue to support the company. But, above all, he wants to clarify the conditions for privatization and the company's takeover.
"We all know the conditions under which this company was privatized. We also all know that the commitments that were supposed to accompany this privatization were never respected. And that, unfortunately, this benefited only the investor, and perhaps a few private interests, but absolutely not Senegal," declared the Prime Minister.
He told the audience that he wants everything to be clarified: "We also know that the conditions under which this privatization was terminated were not the best for the country's interests. We need to have a very clear picture of all this. This is why the Court of Auditors' audit cannot stop at diagnosing the three previous campaigns," he insisted.
The Prime Minister did not fail to congratulate the current Sonacos team, particularly the CEO, for the work accomplished in a short time to revive the company's operations. This, despite the delicate situation of the company. However, the Prime Minister promised a ramp-up "to make this company the flagship it should remain for the country."
