Dieuppeul : Un gang d'agresseurs à la machette démantelé par la police

An operation led by the Dieuppeul district police station has partially dismantled a criminal gang specializing in motorcycle theft. Four arrested individuals were brought before the Dakar High Court on Friday for criminal conspiracy, violent robbery committed at night, and use of a bladed weapon and a means of transportation.

Armed robbery at dawn

At around 6 a.m., the mason MD, a 27-year-old Guinean national living in Petit Mbao, went to the police station to file a complaint for having been attacked at around 4 a.m. while he was on his way to Diamaguène, according to Seneweb sources close to the prosecution.

According to his testimony, eight individuals on motorcycles, armed with machetes, ambushed him. Under threat, they seized his TVS motorcycle, his iPhone 12 Pro Max cell phone, and 3,500 CFA francs.

Thanks to the GPS system installed on the stolen motorcycle, the victim was able to locate his vehicle near the Castors district, before requesting police intervention. At the scene, Commissioner Thioub's men arrested the first suspect, I. Guèye, alias "Ibou," a 29-year-old tailor living in Castors. Questioned on the scene, I. Guèye admitted to having committed the theft in the company of CS Guèye, 21, and six other accomplices. These spontaneous confessions facilitated the work of the investigators.

A search of the premises led to the discovery of the motorcycle hidden under a tarpaulin in a fruit and vegetable shed, confirming the statements of the accused.

Further investigations revealed the existence of an organized network of receiving stolen goods. Two other individuals were arrested: Mr. Ndiaye, a 28-year-old delivery driver from Bambey living in Castors, and A. Faye, a 22-year-old mechanic living in Yarakh. They are suspected of being the thieves' designated receivers, suggesting a well-established criminal structure with a division of roles.

The modus operandi of this gang reveals a worrying level of violence. The use of machetes, the organization into groups of eight, and the chosen schedules testify to an organized crime that does not hesitate to resort to intimidation and violence to achieve its ends.
