Affaire du drame de l’hôpital de Diourbel : L’avis tranché de Cheikh Seck, SG de la FDTS…
Tragedy has rocked the Diourbel region following the tragic loss of Astou Ndiaye's baby. The incident took place in front of the regional hospital. The woman, who had come to give birth, was reportedly turned away due to lack of space, according to initial reports. A judicial investigation has been opened, on the instructions of the prosecutor.
Questioned on this situation, which brings back to the table the question of the management of obstetric emergencies in "Soir d'info" on the TFM, Cheikh Seck, secretary general of the Federation of Health Workers (FDTS), delivered a clear opinion, calling for caution, systemic analysis and accountability of all actors in the health chain.
"I analyze as a health worker. When we talk about a hospital or the maternity ward there, it's the structure at the top of the health pyramid," he said. "The Diourbel Regional Hospital is a level 3 public health facility, equipped with a technical platform," he said. "Given its level, it can only refer patients to Dakar. Therefore, a much more in-depth analysis of the situation is required," he added.
For the union representative, every maternal death must be the subject of a complete audit, in order to determine responsibilities at all levels. "This woman carried her pregnancy for nine months. Did she attend prenatal consultations? Were there any anomalies during these visits that would justify her not giving birth at a health center? When did she arrive at the hospital? All these elements must be examined before drawing conclusions," explained Cheikh Seck.
He also blames recurring delays in consulting health facilities. "Patients often don't arrive on time. They wait until the last minute, and the risks are enormous. There can be premature rupture of the membrane or hemorrhage. Often, the delays before arriving at the hospital make the situation worse," he stressed.
However, Cheikh Seck recalls a fundamental principle in public health: emergencies must always be taken care of, regardless of space or personnel constraints.
"If difficulties were detected, the woman in labor should not be turned away. Whatever the situation, emergencies must be resolved. This is what we are taught in public health," he said.
But in this specific case of Diourbel, the union representative advocates waiting for the results of the announced audit before making any hasty judgments. "It is wiser to wait for the audit's conclusions to understand exactly what happened. It is from then on that we will be able to speak with full responsibility," he concluded.

Mr le syndicaliste tu ne peux pas poser des interrogations ensuite tu viens parler d'urgence.
L'urgence n'a pas besoin de question. Donc tu es incohérent et tu cherches à couvrir les responsables alors que l'urgence dit tout.
Le problème c'est quand tu n'as pas d'argent, nos hôpitaux ne te prennent pas! C'est cela qu'il faut régler! Tout le reste est blabla!! Qui l'a mise enceinte et d'où elle vient et fait elle ses suivis prénataux, n'est pas la question!!
La plupart des problèmes qui surviennent dans nos structures sont liés à des manquements comme un manque de place, un manque d ambulance ou de carburant ou de prise en charge du chauffeur et de l accompagnant, un manque de médicaments, de couveuses, d anesthésistes ou de produits anesthésiques, un manque de spécialiste pour prendre en charge l urgence.
Ce sont ces problèmes qu il faut régler en premier avant de parler d accueil.
