With 48 hours to go before the Grand Magal of Touba, scheduled for August 13, 2025, the Louga bus station is bustling with activity. Pilgrims are flocking to the holy city, but are denouncing an exorbitant rise in transport prices. While the Louga-Touba journey usually costs 2,000 CFA francs, fares now reach up to 6,000 CFA francs during this period.
Drivers justify this increase by the cost of fuel and road taxes. However, pilgrims, faced with double or even tripled fares, are calling on the state to regulate prices, particularly during major religious events such as the Magal. This observation extends throughout the region: in Linguère as in Kébemer, users must pay double to reach Touba.
No accidents have been reported to date on the Kébemer-Touba, Louga-Touba, and Linguère-Touba routes. However, authorities and drivers are urged to exercise extra caution to ensure the safety of the millions of worshippers expected. The Ministry of Transport has announced measures to ease traffic flow, including Mbacké-Touba trains and a reorganization of motorway lanes.
