Sédhiou : la police démantèle un réseau spécialisé dans le vol de bétail et l’abattage clandestin
The central police station in Sédhiou has achieved a major success by dismantling a gang of criminals involved in cattle theft and illegal slaughter. The operation, conducted by members of the research brigade, took place during a night patrol.
According to Seneweb sources, police were alerted to suspicious activity in an unfinished building in the city. Immediately going to the scene, officers set up a surveillance operation nearby, remaining on stakeout for several hours.
Around 4:00 a.m., an individual appeared in front of the building. He was immediately apprehended. A search of the premises led Commissioner Cheikh Oumar Sow's officers to discover a bag filled with fresh meat. Confronted with this discovery, the suspect revealed the identity of one of his accomplices.
The use of this information led investigators to arrest five other members of the network, who were in possession of two motorcycles used for transportation. Another search, carried out at the home of one of the suspects, resulted in the seizure of a second bag of meat.
In total, six people were arrested: three butchers, two motorcycle drivers, and a forestry worker. The investigation established that the gang had stolen a cow in the commune of Bambali before butchering it and transporting the meat, concealed in bags, to Sédhiou.
Following the investigation, the six suspects were brought before the Sédhiou High Court yesterday. After being remanded in custody by the prosecutor, they could be detained by the judge on charges of criminal conspiracy, aggravated robbery committed at night using a vehicle, illegal slaughter, and complicity.
