Sédhiou : Le foncier comme levier contre les violences basées sur le genre (Gouverneur)
The governor of Sédhiou, Diadia Dia, presided over a regional workshop focused on strengthening the capacities of women and the defense and security forces. According to the head of the regional executive, secure access to land is a direct response to gender-based violence (GBV). By guaranteeing their financial autonomy, land provides women with an essential social and economic foundation to overcome vulnerability.
The training brought together various stakeholders, including judicial police officers, community leaders ("Badienu Gox"), imams, and traditional authorities. According to Seynabou Diouf of the Senegalese Association of Women Lawyers, the modules focused on listening and counseling techniques, as well as land tenure security. She stated that the current situation is alarming, emphasizing that women represent 70% of the agricultural workforce, while less than 6% have secure access to land. To address this injustice, the stated objective is to achieve land allocation decisions that benefit at least 30% women in the targeted municipalities.
