Thiès : Le gang à la machette qui écumait les rues nocturnes démantelé
The Thiès 1st District Police Station's investigation unit has dismantled a dangerous gang of attackers specializing in violent motorcycle thefts. Three of the members and their receiver were arrested and taken into custody for criminal conspiracy, multiple robberies committed at night in groups with violence, and the use of knives, according to Seneweb sources.
This arrest is the result of an investigation that began in February 2025, after the referral of a first gang on February 27 for similar acts. Mr. Sow, alias "B.Tall, 21 years old and residing in the Serigne Ablaye Yakhine Diop district of Thiès, was actively sought by the police for the machete attack on the Jakarta motorcycle driver, N. Diagne, on the night of September 7 to 8, 2025, around 4 a.m., in the Médina Fall district. The victim had filed a complaint with a medical certificate attesting to a temporary incapacity for work of 30 days.
Arrested on September 26 at around 9:15 a.m., Mr. Sow admitted his involvement in the attack and denounced his accomplices, Pierre and Solo. Pierre BD, 20, who lives in the Grand Standing neighborhood, was arrested shortly afterward. He confirmed his participation in the attack along with Mr. Sow and a certain Solo, whose home he knew.
Thanks to his collaboration, S. Diop, alias "Solo," 19, a student in BT electromechanics and living in Keur Mame El Hadj, was arrested. He also admitted to the violent assault on N. Diagne.
A formidable modus operandi
The three criminals revealed their particularly dangerous method of operation. They traveled three at a time on a Jakarta motorcycle, armed with machetes, and crisscrossed the dark streets of Thiès. As soon as they spotted a Jakarta motorcycle driver, they would chase him. When they reached him, one of them would strike him to destabilize him, make him fall, and seize his motorcycle.
Investigations revealed the gang's involvement in several other attacks. Mr. Sow was wanted for participating in the machete attack on Mr. Babou on the night of July 9-10, 2025, who robbed him of 800,000 CFA francs. An accomplice, O. Diop, 20, a mechanic, had already been arrested and brought before a court on July 14, 2025.
The gang is also suspected of the robbery committed on the night of September 20, 2025, at the home of A. Samb, where his Jakarta motorcycle was stolen. This time, Mr. Sow was accompanied by a certain A. Bello.
The investigation also identified the network for the resale of stolen motorcycles. S. Barry, 39, a motorcycle mechanic living in the Randoulène district, was arrested at the Thiès bus station. He admitted to having purchased the motorcycle from N. Diagne for 100,000 CFA francs, a fraction of its real value, confirming his role as a receiver in this criminal network.
In total, three gang members were arrested for multiple machete attacks, along with a fence. They were taken into custody at the Thiès 1st arrondissement police station.
