What appears to be a vast network trafficking in fake administrative documents has suffered a serious blow, dealt by elements of the Unit 15 police station of the Parcelles Assainies. The alleged mastermind of the organization is behind bars. His name is Ibrahima F. This former soldier was taken into custody for fraud, forgery, and use of forged public documents.
The suspect was killed last Friday. He was spotted by one of his victims, Amadou Barry, wandering near the roundabout of Unit 26 of Parcelles Assainies. Two years earlier, rewinds L'Observateur, which mentions this story in its Monday edition, he had paid 35,000 CFA francs to Ibrahima F. in exchange for a Senegalese birth certificate. After collecting the money, the latter disappeared without honoring his commitment.
As soon as he found him two years later, Barry discreetly raised the alarm. The police deployed, arrested the suspect, and took him to the police station. They discovered that they were dealing with a former soldier, living in Petit Mbao.
A search of his bag allowed investigators to stumble upon a veritable "mobile civil status center": "162 birth certificates, the majority of which bear names with foreign connotations, 32 copies of identity cards, 8 nationality certificates, 10 residence certificates, 2 passports, 11 identity cards and 9 receipts," lists L'Observateur.
Ibrahima F. quickly confessed. In addition to admitting to his career in forging documents, he revealed his modus operandi: "He primarily targets clients from the sub-region, offering them the fraudulent acquisition of Senegalese administrative documents. He also states that his main accomplice operates from abroad," the daily newspaper reported.
A search of his home in Sicap Mbao led, according to the newspaper, to the seizure of around ten other birth certificates. "Quickly," adds the same source, "several victims of the network, alerted by the arrest of [Ibrahima F.], converged on the police station to file a complaint or join the case as a civil party."
