Blaise Diagne Avenue will be temporarily closed to traffic, starting Thursday, January 15, 2026, the prefect of Dakar announced in a statement published on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The closure specifically concerns "the section between the roundabout of the Abass Ndao hospital and rue 11 of the Medina", specifies Cherif Mouhamadou Blondin Ndiaye.
Following this decision, the authorities are advising motorists to adjust their routes. They are "invited to use streets 22 and 6 in the Medina as detour routes."
Security support is also planned, since "appropriate signage will be deployed, with the support of police units and traffic control officers."
Due to the risks associated with the roadworks, motorists are urged to exercise caution. The prefect advises drivers to "exercise increased vigilance when approaching the work zone" and to "strictly comply with the temporary signage in place," while respecting "speed limits and all safety instructions."
This measure is part of "the start of the roadworks to upgrade and develop the roads located near the sports infrastructure for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG)".
