Demi-finales Ligue des champions : Feu d’artifice au Parc des Princes, Paris prend une petite option
In a packed and electric Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain took a slim step towards qualification by defeating Bayern Munich 5-4 in a spectacular match. Led by a decisive Ousmane Dembélé, the Parisians will nevertheless need to confirm their form in what promises to be a fiery return leg in Munich.
The match-up could not have been more exciting than this Champions League semi-final between Paris Saint-Germain, the defending champions, and Bayern Munich, the best attack in Europe.
From the opening minutes, both teams displayed their attacking ambitions. Bayern struck first with a penalty won by Luis Diaz and converted by Harry Kane (17th minute).
Not at all fazed, PSG reacted quickly through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian, with a clinical strike, leveled the score (24th minute).
Sharper in their attacks, Luis Enrique's men took the lead through João Neves. The Portuguese headed home a well-taken corner from Ousmane Dembélé (33rd minute).
Stung by this setback, Bayern Munich responded through their in-form player, Michael Olise. The French international, with a fine strike, put Bayern back in contention (41st minute).
The Germans thought they had done the hard part, but they hadn't counted on the talent of Ousmane Dembélé. The Frenchman won a penalty which he converted himself, allowing PSG to go into the locker room with a one-goal lead (3-2).
In the second half, both teams returned with the same attacking intent. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, once again, extended the reigning European champions' lead by converting a fine pass from Achraf Hakimi (56th minute). Two minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé sealed the victory by scoring Paris' fifth goal (58th minute).
With this advantage, the Parisians thought they had the game wrapped up, but they hadn't counted on the Germans' determination. Dayot Upamecano reduced the deficit with a header from a Joshua Kimmich free-kick (65th minute).
Paris then panics and abandons its game. Luis Diaz, unstoppable on the front of the attack, takes advantage of a long ball to eliminate Marquinhos before beating the keeper with an unstoppable shot (68th).
Despite a very difficult end to the match, PSG managed to maintain their narrow advantage to win (5-4).
The return match is already shaping up to be explosive.
