Assemblée générale du Conseil des ministres africains en charge de l’eau : l’Afrique adopte sa Vision de l’Eau 2063
Africa has reached a historic milestone. At the end of the 14th Ordinary Session of the General Assembly of the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW), held on 28 and 29 September 2025 in Dakar, 17 ministers and some thirty delegates from the African Union adopted the African Water Vision 2063.
An ambitious roadmap
This vision, aligned with the African Union's Agenda 2063, sets several priorities such as integrated water resources management, the use of water as a lever for economic and social development, the mobilization of local and international financing as well as the use of innovation and digital technology for more effective governance.
With this document intended to guide sustainable water management, Africa is equipping itself with a unique framework to defend its resources, stimulate economic growth and guarantee its populations equitable access to water, a vital resource and engine of development.
Hydraulics Minister Cheikh Tidiane Dièye indicated that the text will be presented to the African Union before its passage before the Summit of Heads of State and Government for final adoption.
Senegal showcases hydraulic leadership
For the Senegalese minister, also president of AMCOW, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, "the adoption of this document shows that Africa now speaks with one voice on the issue of water."
He praised the leading role of Senegal, already engaged in sub-regional cooperation with OMVG and OMVS.
Next meeting: the UN
Senegal will co-host the United Nations Water Conference with the United Arab Emirates in January. Dakar will host a high-level preparatory meeting this fall to refine the themes for future international dialogues.
Elected head of AMCOW last year, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye has given new impetus to the institution, strengthening Senegal's position as a key player in water governance in Africa.
