Un billet pour la finale à 1,8 million de francs: ça vous tente?
For the 2026 World Cup, tickets for the final are reaching exorbitant prices on FIFA's resale platform, sparking criticism and controversy.
When ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup resumed in early April, there was significant discontent with the exorbitant prices. Prices listed on FIFA's official resale platform are even higher.
On Thursday, four tickets for the final at MetLife Stadium, on the outskirts of New York, were offered for sale at a price of 2.3 million US dollars each, or about 1.8 million francs per ticket.
FIFA is playing its part...
The original price for these four tickets was $8,860 each (nearly 7,000 francs). They were offered at a base price of nearly $2 million, plus a 15% fee charged by FIFA, amounting to nearly $300,000.
FIFA allows ticket holders to resell their tickets on its platform at a price they freely set. If all four tickets are sold at the asking price, FIFA would pocket approximately $2.4 million. The seats are located in the second-to-last row of block 124, a section on the side behind the goal.
In a recent statement, FIFA defended this secondary market model, stating that it is in line with common practices for tickets to major sporting events in host countries, following the emergence of criticism regarding exorbitant prices.
However, unlike for-profit third-party ticketing platforms, FIFA's revenues are reinvested in the development of football globally, through its 211 member associations.
