Saint-Louis : la coalition Diomaye cogne sur Ousmane Sonko et défend le projet de référendum
The Diomaye Coalition, led by President of the Saint-Louis department, reaffirmed its full support for President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his proposed referendum. Meeting in a general assembly for information purposes, the coalition also strongly criticized the proposed constitutional revision championed by Ousmane Sonko, whom it accuses of seeking to weaken the head of state.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, the departmental secretary general, Ousmane Ndiaye, welcomed what he considers to be strong support from the people of Saint-Louis for the public policies implemented by the President of the Republic. According to him, the departmental coordination has been strengthened and now enjoys broad support.
"Today, the departmental coalition of Saint-Louis is a complete success, because the population has embraced the public policies of His Excellency the President of the Republic," he said.
The coalition now intends to translate this momentum into electoral results. Its ambition is, in particular, to win all five municipalities in the Saint-Louis department as well as the departmental council in the upcoming local elections.
During this meeting, coalition leaders also expressed their support for the referendum project championed by the head of state. In their view, this popular consultation is essential in the current political climate.
Furthermore, the coalition, through its spokesperson Ousmane Ndiaye, strongly attacked Ousmane Sonko and his initiative for constitutional revision. Ndiaye specifically challenged Sonko's legitimacy, calling him a "false president of the National Assembly" and arguing that the project he advocates cannot be imposed on the Senegalese people.
According to him, "this constitutional revision will not pass", stating that "it is out of the question that one million nine hundred thousand votes should decide the future of more than nineteen million Senegalese".
The coalition leader also attributed to Ousmane Sonko the intention of wanting to "muzzle the President of the Republic within the assembly."
For his part, the coordinator of the coalition's cadre commission, Saloum Kane, invited the directors general (DG) who are no longer in line with the President of the Republic to resign from their positions.
“The directorates are the technical arms of the ministries. It is illogical to no longer be on the same political wavelength as the President of the Republic while continuing to exercise these responsibilities. These people should not even wait to be relieved of their duties. They should resign and make way for officials willing to support the President and contribute to the implementation of his project,” he said.
