The former FIFA Ethics Committee member explained the sanctions that Senegal could face following the incidents that occurred during the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Invited to RTS for the post-match analysis of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Abdoulaye Makhtar Diop stated that Senegal will keep the trophy because, he said, the rules governing match forfeiture do not apply to this final. However, sanctions are expected for the players who left the field and for coach Pape Thiaw.
"The CAF will deliver its verdict, and what I have to say is that Senegal will keep its cup, there is no problem with that, but in my opinion, the sanction will target Pape Thiaw and certainly the players who left the field," he said.
According to him, the Senegalese Football Federation must apologize for Pape Thiaw's behavior and take steps to mitigate the sanctions. "They must take steps, and that is the Federation's responsibility, to mitigate the sanctions, because inevitably, there will be sanctions."
Abdoulaye Makhtar Diop also indicated that the sanctions will vary depending on the materiality of the facts, stressing that CAF attaches great importance to the reports of the referee, the match commissioner and the match inspector.

Merci pape bouba thiaw 1000 fois.
