En Mars, 2014 (11:32 AM)Senegalese Singer Thione Seck Remains Unapologetic For Praising Jammeh!!!
Thione Seck said he will continue to sing the praises of anyone he likes. He said he has no regrets for singing people he wants to sing. Thione said he is not into politics and that he is not affiliated with any government or political group. He was speaking during Fatu's show aired on Seneweb on Thursday. The singer has composed a song for The Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh praising him for his mystical powers and his ability to cure diseases deemed incurable. The popular singer said he was onetime nominated as a an MP in Senegal, but he turned his nomination down. Thione in a rather charged speech told Fatou Camara that he is an artist and he would continue to practice his career.
Regarding the DUGA protest letter and Yanamarr's partnership with DUGA, Thione said he has no contacts with the latter. He admitted that he received an unsigned letter from (DUGA) advising him to take the plight of suffering Gambians seriously. The singer said he never took the DUGA letter seriously because no one signed the letter. He said the authors of the letter ought to have appended their signature on the letter. He also denied insulting anyone.
Coach-Pasamba Jow, later phoned the show to debunk Thione's claims that DUGA'S letter was never signed. Coach dismisses Thione's claims describing it as utterly false. Caoch said the DUGA letter was signed and was widely publicized by the Senegalese press. He added that the letter that was served to Thione contains DUGA's letter head. Coach went as far as saying that musician Youssou Ndour has even responded to their letter.
According to Coach, Thione Secka's mystification of dictator Jammeh, would further encourage Jammeh to further harm Gambians. He said Jammeh is a serial killer and also a liar, who should be shunned by artists who worth their salt. Coach maintained that he has stood by his position for the boycotting of the Thione show in Atlanta. He added that he will not attend such shows or encourage anyone to attend it in view of Thione's past remarks. He stated that DUGA as an organization has called for the boycott of Thione's shows.
Fatou Camara also took up the Jollof News story in which Thione was quoted as saying that he will sing anyone he wants. Thione said he was about to board a plane when a reporter called him asking him questions about his praises of the dictator. Thione maintains that he will continue to compose songs for people he likes.
